The Horizon


 


Growing old is not detachment or disengagement.

Growing is turning sweet without consuming much of sweets; it is getting attracted without attempting to woo others; it is to exist without prevailing. It is to have another generation, progeny of our progeny, which makes us believe that we are still magnanimous and generous.

In our fifties or sixties, we get yet another opportunity to meet those emissaries of God, who are pious and pure, safe and sound, true and thorough, in no way afflicted with the wickedness and the wiliness of this world. These little angels, who are the direct descendants of God, come with the purpose to remind us, to teach us and to reaffirm that the abode, which we left a long time ago and where we are destined to return, is still cheery and charming. 

Our grandchildren make us realize that we are turning grand (parents). After experiencing ups and downs of the worldly pursuits, we get a chance to become carefree and caring. At the time of parenting, we ourselves are incomplete and hence can’t give suitable reply to the queer questions of the probing minds of our children. Our involvement leads to our evolvement. While aging we move towards wisdom and completeness. The piercing eyes of our children used to start shedding tears because of our snubbing responses. However, the exploring eyes of our grandchildren wear glittering smile with our perceptive and yet childlike replies.

While the company of grandchildren makes the grandparents realize accomplishment; by adoring their grandparents, the grandchildren remain buoyant and radiant.
